Trailmaker vs AdScan
What AdScan is built for
AdScan is competitor ad research built around spend. A Chrome extension adds a Check Spend button inside the Meta Ad Library. For ads in the UK, EU and Brazil, where Meta publishes reach figures, it shows reach and estimated spend on each ad card and ranks the ads so the likely winners surface first.
Around that sit saved ads, Brand Spy for tracking competitor brands, and AI cloning that turns a competitor's ad into variations for your brand. AdScan is part of AdManage, a bulk ad launcher, so the pitch is research and launch in one workflow.
What Trailmaker is built for
Trailmaker looks inward. It reads the ads you have run, judges each one against your own break-even, and says what to kill, scale or test next. Once Meta reports back, it remembers the answer.
Competitor spend answers what others are putting money behind. Trailmaker takes on the question that signal cannot reach: whether your own ads pay for themselves at your margin.
When AdScan is the better buy
Situations where we would tell you to go with them. This is not a formality — if one of these is your situation, buying Trailmaker would be a mistake.
You want to see what competitors spend. AdScan's estimates rest on reach data Meta publishes and, by its own account, are a directional signal rather than billed spend. Trailmaker offers no such research signal in any form.
You research ads in the UK, EU or Brazil. By AdScan's own account those are the only regions where Meta publishes the reach data its spend estimates need.
You want research and bulk launching in one workflow. AdScan passes winners to AdManage's launcher, while Trailmaker's Quick Deploy (Media Buyer beta, Pro) takes up to ten videos per job and has no competitor research behind it.
The structural difference
Spend is a signal about someone else's decision. An ad a competitor keeps funding suggests it works for them, in their account, at their margin. An estimate of that spend says nothing about whether the same format pays at yours, and cloning it copies the look without the economics.
Trailmaker is built on your economics: every ad judged against the break-even ROAS from your own unit economics, and the verdict kept once Meta reports back. Whether the resulting ads perform better is a claim we do not make; we have not proven it, and we are not going to sell it before we have.
Questions people ask
- What is the difference between Trailmaker and AdScan?
- AdScan is competitor ad research: a Chrome extension that shows estimated spend inside the Meta Ad Library for the UK, EU and Brazil, plus saved ads, Brand Spy and AI cloning, tied to a bulk launcher. Trailmaker judges your own Meta ads against your break-even and proposes what to kill, scale or test next.
- When is AdScan the better buy?
- When you want to see what competitors spend, when you research ads in the UK, EU or Brazil where Meta publishes reach data, or when you want competitor research and bulk launching in one workflow through AdManage. Trailmaker has no competitor research and no research-to-launch workflow; its Quick Deploy beta is a separate, small launch path for up to ten videos per job.
- Does Trailmaker show competitor ad spend like AdScan?
- No. Trailmaker does not estimate what other advertisers spend or track their ads. It reads the ads in your own account, judges each against your break-even, and proposes the next test with the reasoning written out so you can overrule it.
